The Mitchell Report Forces Confessions

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Think what you want about the Mitchell Report, but one thing is for certain; The Mitchell Report is causing baseball players to end their silence and admit use, almost on a daily basis.  The report itself was not based on fact or testimony that could be cross examined, but it had to be at the very least partly accurate with so many players coming clean so quickly after the report was released.   The players that have come out and admitted use (typically infrequent use) are spinning the story in their favor.  We as a society forgive those who 1)admit wrong doing and 2)ask for forgiveness.  We’ve proven this time and time again.  What we as a society won’t tolerate are those athletes who set their jaws in defiance and refuse to admit their mistakes, and continue to lie and deny.  There days of accountability are fast approaching, and their transgressions will eventually be brought to light, no matter how many times they claim their innocence.

The Miami Dolphins Finally Win…SO?!?

Monday, December 17th, 2007

The Miami Dolphins finally got into the win column with a nail biting 22-16 victory over Baltimore.  Okay, so maybe it wasn’t nail biting, but it was a well played ballgame.  What, wasn’t that either?  Well then, at least it was well coached. What, you must be kidding?  Billick went for the tie, rather than the win, from the 1 foot line?  Man, did the Dolphins win or did the Ravens just hand them a gift?  Either way, what does it all mean?  Nothing.  The Dolphins are still a completely inept team, and the Ravens are nothing more than over paid, over the hill, pseudo-superstars that care more about taunting, celebrating and bad officiating than they care about winning.  Yes, that’s right Ray Lewis…I’m looking in your direction….1/2 way across the country…safe in my office…..with the door locked….(what can I say, that dude still intimidates the heck out of me).

LeBron James returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

LeBron James returned after missing 6 games with a sprained finger. The Cavaliers lost all 6 games without LeBron, but won by 13 in his return. Which leads me to this conclusion…LeBron is the MVP in the NBA every year until he retires. No other playoff team has less to work with if it loses their star player. The Heat still have an aging Shaq, to anchor the lineup if Dwayne Wade goes out. If the Suns lose Nash…they have Amare. If the Spurs lose Duncan..they have Ginobli. There is no other player more valuable to the success of his team than LeBron James. That is the definition of MVP.

New England Patriots Still Undefeated…barely

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

The New England Patriots are still undefeated ….only by the slimmest of margins.  Facing 4th downs twice on the final scoring drive, and getting 2 fortunate whistles to avoid being stopped on 4th and 1 helped the Patriots keep their perfect season in tact.  This has been the 2nd week in a row that the Patriot trailed in the 4th quarter and were seriously on the verge of losing.  Which brings up a valid point.  Are the New England Patriots hitting a wall?  The Patriots aren’t a young team by any stretch of the imagination.  In matchups that they would have won by 3 touchdowns earlier in the year, they are barely squeaking by.   This is definetly something to consider in the upcoming weeks when looking at the Patriots chances on going unbeaten.  For more of my NFL Picks log on to http://www.bettingkings.com/packages/

BCS Bowl Games Announced

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

How many schools have to get screwed before the “powers that be” make changes to the bowl system?  I’m not griping about Va Tech, Georgia, Oklahoma or USC missing out on the National Championship game.  The way the system is set up, you can’t change what the formula spits out. The top 2 teams are the top 2 teams as far as the BCS is concerened.  I have a problem with the Orange Bowl.  We have committees who can choose the most deserving and/or best teams to compete in their ever so sacred bowl games. Who did they choose? Kansas!!! Nothing against the fighting Manginos, who had a terrific season, but this not ready for primetime team will be exploited by Va Tech.  Kansas has the 109th ranked schedule in the nation, they just lost their last game to Missouri at a neutral site, they are ranked behind Missouri in the BCS, and they get to play in the Orange Bowl?  We hear every year that the computers can’t factor in “logic” and the computers screw up the BCS, but I’m here to tell you the BCS Bowl committees screwed this up BIG TIME.  Missouri has beaten 2 BCS teams, and their only loss came to an Oklahoma team that very well could be the best team in the country.  What does Missouri get rewarded with?   A 10 a.m. kickoff on Jan. 1st in the Cotton Bowl vs. an Arkansas team that is without a coach.  Congratulations Missouri on the best season at your school in 50 years…even if the “powers that be” still handed you the shaft.
